Coordinators Reports

Coaching - The Ithaca Soccer Club is holding coaches clinics; there was one last Saturday, and one this coming Saturday, and more will be held over the winter. As always, DSC encourages its coaches to attend.

Registrar – Peggy Westerling reminded everyone that disclosure statements are required every two years, and they are dated from August. She passed out forms. Coaches absolutely need passes or they cannot be in the box. Peggy also had rosters with notes for any players for whom she did not yet have both registrations forms and money.

Facilities – Peggy confirmed requested practice schedules with the coaches.

Uniforms - Peggy placed a big order with Score; it is scheduled to ship by 10/24, and we can expect one week for shipping.

Adult program - The Adult Indoor program is scheduled to start November 2.

Coaching and Referees - Tim said Rob Elliott would be arriving later for tonight's program. Tim is trying to give coaches ideas, and would like to start doing 15 minute technical sessions at DSC meetings. He asked for feedback as to why this was not successful last year, in terms of attendance. He also asked whether there was interest in additional material on the Web site.

Michelle suggested a videotape library, where coaches can sign out videos. Michelle has 3 videotapes; Laszlo has some tapes that the Club paid for. Tim will check with Laszlo on this.

Rich Parker suggested that we not let the Web site stagnate, and that we ask Laszlo to update his site. Tim pointed out that NYSW also has good links to coaching material.

Rich also asked about referees - are there any kids who would be interested in refereeing games for the younger kids, and anywhere he can go to find out about required certificates and compensation? Tim directed Rich to contact Bill Campbell, tripsdad@aol.com. Tim's recollection is that referees must be 14, and must have some certification; Bill Campbell conducts referee training sessions.

Equipment - Jer-Ann Bush has medical kits and some pinnies. For the first aid kits, she pointed out that they contain NO ingestables such as aspirin or Tylenol, and cautioned the coaches not to dispense medications without parents' written permission. Also, there are no tubes, only single-use packages.

Publications - Lizette reported on 3 projects for fundrasing.

  1. She has investigated stickers - vinyl with no adhesive, but will adhere to car windows etc. - that say "Soccer Rocks". These are available for around $1. to $1.50 each in quantities of 500, and could be sold for $3.00. The idea here would be that teams could sell them, reimburse the Club for the expense, and keep the profits.
  2. Rainjackets. These would be black jackets with the Club logo, and would sell for $15.00-$20.00 each. She will send Email asking for orders from both kids and parents.
  3. T shirts, as has been discussed at previous meetings. If we are selling jackets, we would want to hold off on T shirts until spring. Should these be "Soccer Rocks" shirts?

In addition, she is successfully getting information into the local Community News columns - and she needs scores! Either Email or phone scores to Lizette.

Lizette also asked about pictures on the Web site. There was some discussion. Team shots that don't identify individual kids are OK. In general, it's a bad idea to put pictures of individual kids with any identifying information.

New Business

Colors – Tim asked for discussion on an exemption from the Club's uniform policy for premiere teams. It was not completely determined which teams would be considered "premiere" - technically, a premiere team is one that would not be eligible for Broome County play, but plays in a premiere league. There was lively discussion.

Next meeting: Monday, November 17, 7:00 PM at the Elementary School
